Frequently Asked Questions about PRO courses:

Who should take the Divemaster course?
The Divemaster course is the first step towards working in the dive industry as a professional and is intended for divers who are interested in working in the dive industry - it is not just another certification card.

Do you offer work exchange programs?
No. We do not offer any work exchange programs for any training courses.

How long does it take to complete the Divemaster course?
Candidates usually complete the course in about two weeks, but we will not sign off on candidates until we feel that they have satisfactorily met and exceeded all of the requirements for the course. Students should be prepared to dive and go out on the boat as often as possible during that two week period, as well as have extensive independent study and preparation for the academic portion. This is not a casual course to be taken on vacation.

What is a typical day in the Divemaster course?
Candidates work the boat with our staff and assist with as much training as possible. A typical day will begin at 8:00 am and end about 4:00 pm and consist of a blend of filling tanks, setting up the boat for divers, assisting instructors with classes, leading dives, hauling tanks, and assisting with equipment set up and breakdown. Academic sessions are scheduled throughout the course, depending on the preparation level of the candidate.

What is the Discover Scuba Diving Internship and should I take it?
Candidates who have successfully completed the Divemaster training can also add a DSD Internship to their course and be certified to teach Discover Scuba Divers. This is an additional $200.00 and is approved at the discretion of the certifying instructor. An excellent option for divemasters looking to work in the Caribbean.

What is the IDC Process?
The IDC is conducted over an 9 day period and includes the Assistant Instructor course, the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) course and the Emergency First Response Instructor course. The goal of the IDC is to prepare you to take the PADI Instructor Exam (IE). A typical day will be divided between academic presentations, confined and open water sessions, skills development, and rescue practice and usually runs from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.

What is an IE and when/where is it held?
An IE is a two-day program conducted by PADI Instructor Examiners. You will be asked to demonstrate your teaching abilities, rescue abilities and understanding of the PADI System and dive theory. It is pass-fail. These are scheduled by PADI at set times and dates for certain locations and we schedule IDCs around those dates. Typical Virgin Islands IE dates are mid-September (STT), mid-March (STX) and July (STT) and they are conducted at participating dive centers. There is a fee of $599.00 to PADI to take the exam and a fee of $150.00 for your Instructor Application fee and $100 for your EFR application fee which are not included as part of the course.
