Dive Boat Captain
We are looking for experienced dive boat captains who are passionate about diving and boating. Our company is growing and we are looking for captains that are willing to work hard, not be afraid of getting their hands dirty and be excited to work for a company that is always striving to do more.
Your primary purpose would be to serve as a captain with our fleet of 3 dive boats with options to lead dives for those who are qualified and as a need arises. The perfect candidate would be a PADI Professional who is willing and interested in doing both diving and driving. There is potential for growth as a captain with our sister company, Ocean Runner Powerboats, but your primary position would be on our dive boats.
We would expect you to be calm, experienced, safe, flexible, and understand that our guests are our top priority. We are looking for team players that would never use the phrase “that’s not my job” when asked to do something. We would expect you to have the utmost integrity and always do your best.
A normal workday consists of 2-morning dives, 2-afternoon dives, and is usually a 10-hour day. A normal workweek is 40-50 hours for our full-time crew but could be more during holidays. Exceptional communication skills and an outgoing personality are key ingredients to being a successful captain with our company. You must be able to exude a positive attitude with crew and guests even when you are tired or are having a bad day.
Experience with inboard single screw vessels a must and experience with outboard engines a plus. Must be comfortable with boats 36’ and larger. Winds never seem to stop here so you must be comfortable handling windy conditions and understand we very rarely cancel a dive due to winds because our dives sites are mostly protected areas.
If you are passionate about your job and willing to go the extra mile for your boat and your guests; we offer year-round work, competitive wages, and health insurance options. St. John is a beautiful place to live and work but you must be comfortable with small island living.
Our captains must be computer literate, not scared of paperwork, and appreciative of excellence in guest services. A cell phone is also a must for communication with our team.
